Glasgow-based Hydrogen Vehicle Systems displays a 5.5-tonne ‘innovation demonstrator’
This is not a brand new hydrogen-powered truck. Not rather, anyhow. Glasgow-based maker Hydrogen Vehicle Systems explains what you see above as a “5.5-tonne innovation demonstrator” and “a tip to its scheduled 40-tonne zero-emission HGV”.
It’s a scaled-down variation of a future truck, however it is running a complete hydrogen fuel cell powertrain with the company’s smart ‘SEMAS’ fuel effective brain and tech like a KERS system to recuperate energy lost throughout braking.

It’s been developed as an aerodynamic truck too, with a brand new chassis constructed around the hydrogen powertrain and a taxi that obviously provides more area and much better gain access to compared to its ICE equivalents.
We’re informed that HVS took the tech demonstrator from preliminary style to ‘complete vibrant model’ in simply 10 months, which it’s powered by green hydrogen produced straight by renewable resource.

We do not have any tech specifications from the demonstrator, however a future 40-tonne HGV would obviously have a series of 310 miles and a refuelling time comparable to a diesel truck.
“Our zero-emission trucks are an essential part of decarbonising the logistics sector,” states HVS employer Jawad Khursheed. “Hydrogen is the best fuel for the haulage market, providing long varieties and fast refuelling thanks to stations quickly incorporated into essential transportation networks.”
