Glasgow News

Glasgow’s music community, musicians, giggers and friends gathered at the City’s Iconic Music venue the Barrowland to pay tribute to Denny Oliver as his funeral cortege made an honorary journey of remembrance through the streets of Glasgow passing many of the venues where Scheme had played over the past four decades of their musical career.

Crowds gathered outside the Barrowland, grandparents, parents their children and their children’s children. The atmosphere was of mixed emotions. A sad day remembering the lovely man who brought us some beautifully written songs. A celebration of his life as those songs were played in the background. And one final 10 minute round of applause as the hearse approached and stopped to allow mourners to take in the sight of the Barrowlands sign lit during daylight which is a rare sight in the City.

The mourners who choose to pay their respects at the Barrowland adorned the hearse with roses while the many of the mourners in the cortege applauded along with the crowd.

There has been much written over the past 9 days since Denny received his calling. Over 13,000 comments on the bands facebook page, comments full of love and memories. Denny, his music, the band have touched many lives and this has been shown in Glasgow today as she said goodbye to one of her favourite musically talented sons.  Denny Oliver your music and your spirit will live forever in the heart of this City. Glasgow Eyes is proud to have classed you as a friend and we will continue to watch future generations enjoy your music. Sleep Easy our friend.
