Exclusive interview with The Shambolics, a young group hailing from Fife making all the right noises in the world of Scottish music.
Glasgow has one of the best live music scenes in the UK and we recently documented a band playing the circuit, they are one of the best bands around and we definitely predict a huge future ahead of them.
Heres the chat.
What drew you guys to the music industry?
Music is what drove us to play music, the industry is the part I’m not really fond of, to be honest, its full of snakes
Who are you inspired by? The Beatles, Oasis, Stone Roses, Fleetwood Mac, La’s, Arctic Monkeys, The Clash, Abba are a few bands that inspire us, I’m hugely inspired by Muhammad Ali and Conor Mcgregor aswell
Please explain your creative process
There are a few ways we write songs, mostly the 4 of us in a room jamming until something sparks is a good way to start a song, our bassist Jordan and drummer dom are unreal to jam with because they’re tight together, usually me and Lewis write most of the songs, we write together and on our own, writing lyrics and melodies from the jam we’ve had or strumming away on an acoustic in the house is basically where it evolves from
What’s an average day like for you guys on the road
A lot of stress cause were always late or breaking down on the road, a lot of the devil’s lettuce being smoked, most of all a lot of laughs, we love being on the road
Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?
No hiding meanings at all its straight up, most of our unreleased stuff I’m looking forward to getting out there because all the lyrics mean a lot to me and I’m positive a lot of people are gonna relate to them as well, its mostly written about life in general, from the local heroin addict you see every day to the modern popstar who has no control over his music at all except to sing the words which are put in front of him. I can’t wait for everyone to hear all the new tunes.
Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans
I think a lot of our loyal fans who follow us absolutely everywhere and have tattoos of our lyrics on them etc like us because after we’ve done a show were on a bender with them until the next day or 2 after the gig, obviously we try to interact with people as much as we can on social media etc but I like when go out and have a good drink with fans
What is your favorite part of this line of work? Your least favorite? Why?
My favorite is the creative process of writing, sometimes gets stressful when you don’t write for a while or nothing good comes out but when it does its a good feeling, I love traveling about and meeting new people as well. My least favorite is the music industry in general, a lot of people who don’t care about the music at all and are money orientated snakes who claim they are there to help you but will knock you down at any opportunity if its beneficial to them
Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?
Never really. I get too excited before going on stage especially if its a sellout, I hate when there’s too much time to kill after soundcheck, there’s no better feeling than people going absolutely mental to a song that was literally just some words on a bit paper in your bedroom a few months before
Tell me about your favorite performance venues
Playing the 02 Academy in Glasgow was one of my favorites, the first time we had played a venue that size Whats next for u guys and where can we catch this year We are doing a massive hometown show at Lourenzos, Fife on 01/12/18 which will be our biggest headline to date 700 capacity. Were pushing for a sell out on that, once that is sold out were gonna focus on our tour, but first of all some new music.
Shambolics have announced there biggest headline gig to date a 700 cap gig in our homeland of fife at Lourenzos Dunfermline on 01/12/18 still that in your music diary.
