QUINZEL is the soulful and quirky darker side of pop who subconsciously drags you into her world with hooky tunes then breaks your heart with deeply personal lyrics.
Growing up in County Cork, QUINZEL has always had a rather beautifully strange way of looking at life… being the weird girl at school she spent a lot of time on her own immersing herself in bands like The Kills, Amy Winehouse, The Ravonettes and My Chemical Romance.
As a young teen who was struggling with mental health issues, she developed her unique sound by battering away on an old second-hand keyboard and a ukulele she bought in a thrift shop in Cork. She started to put some early demos on soundcloud and discovered a whole tribe of people loved them and related to her songs and lyrics.
QUINZEL says “I’m thankful for those days of isolation as it has in a very odd way helped mould the person I am today! I’m proud to be the slightly quirky oddball who dresses up, writes and records songs, and lives with 3 hedgehogs .. hedgehogs are way more interesting than humans and they dig my tunes, it makes them happy when I sing to them! “.
With a handful of gigs under her belt in her home town she decided to branch out and took a leap of faith and got on a plane to Glasgow.
Here she found a little gang of musicians and poets who love her for who she is!
In fact, Quinzel loved Glasgow so much she never left and is now at the beginning of an epic adventure in the City that embraces the more avant-garde souls amongst us.
QUINZEL’S recent single ‘CROWS’, a mix of dark electro-soulful tones received rave reviews and was even featured on ITV’s Emmerdale. You can find it on iTunes, Spotify and all digital music platforms. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/crows-single/1427669137
If you’re a fan of Halsey, The Kills or Paloma Faith then you’ll love QUINZEL!
QUINZEL plays live this Thursday 22nd November at the Bungalow Bar in Paisley from 8pm.
